LINKIN PARK Offering Free College Concert In Latest Contest
March 17, 2008The Pulse of Radio reports that LINKIN PARK has launched a contest in which fans can create their own remixes of the group's songs, with entrants potentially winning a $4,000 cash prize and a free LINKIN PARK concert at their college campus this fall. All entries will be posted at a special page on the LINKIN PARK tour Web site, LPconcerts.com, and can be accessed through a link that is sent out in an email or posted on Facebook. When a friend clicks on the link in the email or on Facebook, the entrant's remix will be awarded a "prop." A "prop" is defined as a visit to the entrant's remix. The 20 entrants with the most "props" will become finalists and have their remixes submitted for judging.
The contest is open to all legal residents of the U.S. and Puerto Rico aged 13 and over, and the deadline for entries is August 31.
The list of songs available for remixing, as well as more rules and a list of colleges eligible for the concert, can be found at LPconcerts.com.
The contest is the latest example of how LINKIN PARK reaches out to its fans. Frontman Chester Bennington told The Pulse of Radio that the band has a vast appreciation for its audience. "I think we have the best fans in the world, and we just totally appreciate everything they do for us, in whatever way, you know, our fan club, our street teams, just kids out there just buying records or coming to the shows or whatever," he said. "It's awesome, and everything we do, they support us one hundred percent and we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them. So we just totally, we love 'em and try to do as much as we can for 'em."
LINKIN PARK released a digital EP titled "Live from Soho" on iTunes two weeks ago. The six-song set was recorded at the band's surprise midnight show at the Apple store in downtown Manhattan on February 20.
The group concluded its latest North American tour last week in Sacramento. Plans are already afoot for a summer outing, possibly the next edition of the band's Projekt Revolution festival tour.
